English Language Proficiency

All international students must verify English proficiency at the time of application to Kalamazoo College. This requirement can be waived for students who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Applicants for whom English is a second language but have attended a secondary school in an English-speaking country for at least two years
  • Applicants who have completed or are pursuing a full IB diploma and are taking English A1 or English A2 and have a predicted grade of 5 or higher

Use any of the methods below to verify English proficiency:

TOEFL – Internet-based TOEFL exam (iBT) (recommended score of 84 or higher) or computer-based TOEFL exam (recommended score of 213 or higher) (Institutional Code for Kalamazoo College: 1365)

SAT – Recommended evidence-based reading and writing score of 600 or higher

IELTS – Recommended score of 7 or higher

Duolingo Exam – A recommended score of 110 or higher, and an admission interview
